Texas Healthy at Home
In the winter of 2022, TAPCHW began collaborating with Texas Healthy at Home which also funded the project, to develop a series of continuing education courses to aid Texas CHWs who support or work with older adults. The 1st course: "Understanding Older Adults: Resources for Texas CHWs" is set to be offered on Friday, March 31, 2023 virtually.

DSHS Asthma Resources

AHRQ Practical Tools
During the Spring of 2022, TAPCHW worked with Kristie Kiser, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Kelly Smith, Ph.D., University of Toronto in partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) on a 1-hour CHW & CHWI DSHS certified continuing education (CE) course titled "Practical Tools to Improve Patient Engagement" which was offered statewide on Thursday, June 9th virtually. AHRQ promoted their question builder app and brand new promotores resource webpage.

2021-2022 Health Literacy Series
In the fall of 2021 TAPCHW, Health Literacy Texas, & the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 3 (NNLM R3)​ worked together to create a 3-part health literacy series.
The first 1-hour CHW & CHWI DSHS certified continuing education (CE) course was offered on November 5th, 2021 titled "What the Health! How to Find Health Information You Can Use" View the recording of the session here

The second course in the series, "Beyond An Apple a Day: Providing Consumer Health Information" was offered on Friday, January 14th, 2022. View the recording of the session here

The third and final course "Effective Health Communication and Health Literacy: Understanding the Connection" offered on Friday, March 11th, 2022 tied together the previous courses and highlighted key resources from Health Literacy Texas, & the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 3 (NNLM R3). Understanding Glaucoma
On January 27, 2022 TAPCHW provided a 1-hour DSHS certified continuing education (CE) opportunity for CHWs and CHW Instructors in honor of Glaucoma Awareness Month (January) titled "Understanding Glaucoma" through our continued partnership with Prevent Blindness Texas. presented by Monica Guerrero, the Vice-President of Programs and Community Outreach. NACHW COVID-19 Testing Course
On January 21, 2022 TAPCHW partnered with NACHW to provide the most up to date information on COVID-19 testing via a 1-hour noncertified event titled "Advancing CHWs/Promotores Access to Free At Home Rapid COVID19 Test kits Info" Health Leads also presented key information on their Vaccine Equity Cooperative. March of Dimes COVID-19 Course
In October 2021, TAPHCW was contacted by Lisa Dillard, RN, MSN, Director, Maternal Infant Health with the West Texas March of Dimes with an offer to certify and teach a course to Texas CHWs on "What We Know About Pregnancy & COVID-19". TAPHCW worked with Ms. Dillard to ensure the content was appropriate for CHWs and certified the course through the TAPCHW training center.
The 1.5 hour CHW & CHWI DSHS certified continuing education (CE) course was offered on Friday, December 17, 2021. Over 154 CHWs and Instructors from across Texas attended. Access the slides here, view a recording of the session here

NNLM Partnership
In the summer of 2021 TAPCHW built a partnership with the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 3 (NNLM R3)​ in an effort to support our mission to provide continuing education to CHWs in Texas.
On June 17th, 2021 TAPCHW provided a 1-hour CHW & CHWI DSHS certified continuing education (CE) opportunity outside of our regular quarterly member CEs about "Caring for the Mind - Providing Mental Health Information to CHW’s" to Promotores/CHWs through a partnership with . Preparedness Partnership
In the winter of 2021, TAPCHW built a partnership with Texas VOAD & DSHS' Center for Health Emergency Preparedness and Response for the purpose of several projects - the first of which was to provide a Community Preparedness Event on Facebook Live in English and Spanish (held at the end of July). The other projects involve building capacity for CHWs for community preparedness. More to come!

Healthy Voting 2020 Campaign
"I was very impressed of myself that I did something to the community helping person to vote letting them know the rules on this election because of the virus. I did a great job and proud of my self. Also teach out to the Ella Austin community center seniors."
"Although I voted I still push my community those who hasn't voted to do so."
"It was a great experience talking to my neighbors & co workers about the importance of voting & reminding them. Also not to forget their voting cards and ID."
On October 23, 2020 TAPCHW provided a free bi-lingual Promotores/CHWs training through a partnership with HealthyVoting.org; which is on a non-partisan public health outreach and education effort. View slides from the training here - full recording can be accessed here
Healthy Voting provided Texas-specific guidelines to aid P/CHWs to empower voters on casting their ballots in a safe and healthy way as well as provided their partner toolkit that includes information & materials that can be shared via print, social media.
Through the trained CHWs that participated, we reached ~2,500 people throughout Texas with this campaign via social media, email, and word of mouth.
